Digital Doc Des Moines Response to Apple's claim that independent repair stores are bricking phones with Error 53

Apple recently released a press release stating that independent repair stores are bricking iPhones.  You can read all the details in my last post.  It's kind of lengthy but Apple absolutely stepped over the line so here's my response:

Digital Doc Des Moines does NOT brick iPhones.  Apple does.  It's quite common for a customer to destroy their phone by running over it, leaving on top of a car, etc.  In many instances, the home button is completely missing when it comes in.  When we replace it and send the customer home with a working phone, everything is fine UNTIL THEY TRY AND UPDATE THE SOFTWARE THROUGH iTunes.   When Apple finds a replacement home button that is different than the original one during the update, APPLE DISABLES THE PHONE.

So, again, Digital Doc Des Moines does NOT brick iPhones.  Apple does deliberately through their update process.

Why does this happen?  Because Apple did not consider the possibility that a customer would want their phone repaired when they break it.  The ONLY home button that will work on that phone they bought for $700 is the one that was put on by the manufacturer.  Apple's entire strategy is to get people to upgrade or buy a phone when they break them, NOT get them fixed even though a new phone will cost $700 and a repair costs around $100.

Bring your phone to Digital Doc Des Moines for repair.  We know what we are doing.  We will move your original home button over to the newly repaired phone if at all possible.  If it's not possible, we will help you understand what your options are.  We may even send you to Apple if that is the only way out.
