We're seeing a LOT of bad charging ports on the new Samsung S6, and S7
it's a sad truth that these beautiful phones are loaded with a cheap charging port. We're getting approached by many people to help replace them. The challenge is that the phone screen does not come off easily and it must be removed to replace the charging port. So, it ends up being a pretty expensive repair as both the screen and port must be replaced many times. We're pretty good at salvaging the old screen but can't guarantee it every time.

HTC One M8 phones - well built but the software drags them down
As the owner of a phone repair store, I was impressed with how the HTC One phones were designed. Some good engineering. However, the software leaves much to be desired. There is latency in almost every aspect of the phone. It is very frustrating to text when the keyboard stops taking input and then suddenly leaps back to life two words later. And there are times when the keyboard completely disappears. After having the phone for a year, I simply hate it.

Has anyone tried fixing an iPhone 6 screen?
Here's a recent post on FaceBook:
Has anyone out here tried their hand at replacing an iPhone 6 screen (or any iPhone screen) themselves? $199 at the repair stores or $149 at Apple seems a little harsh. (And no, it's not mine. It's Lxxx's.)
I see these all the time and wish I could chime in but most of the conversations are private. I only see them if my store is named directly in the chat. So here's my "chime"
1. iPhone 6 phones don't cost $199 at Digital Doc Des Moines. They cost $119. HUGE difference and I know my competitors are as high as $199. Don't throw us out with the rest of them.
2. The Apple store may or may not get to your iPhone 6 repair. Their goal is to sell you a 6S. They may tell you it isn't fixable. When they get busy, THEY SEND THEIR CUSTOMERS TO US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Don't try to do this yourself. Yes iFixIT has a video and yes it looks easy but it isn't. We have had countless customers bring their phone in so we can rescue their attempt to fix themselves. In several instances, the customer completely destroyed their phone because the videos don't have some important steps like UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY before removing any broken parts. If you don't, you will most certainly fry your phone.
Bottom line - bring your phone to Digital Doc Des Moines. We'll have it fixed and back in your hands in under 30 minutes and it will be repaired by technicians who have repaired thousands of phones and know exactly what to do. All our repairs are warranted for a minimum of 3 months if not more and we have a few ideas for you on how to better protect your phone moving forward (no, we do not sell cases - there are better ways...)

Digital Doc Des Moines Response to Apple's claim that independent repair stores are bricking phones with Error 53
Apple recently released a press release stating that independent repair stores are bricking iPhones. You can read all the details in my last post. It's kind of lengthy but Apple absolutely stepped over the line so here's my response:
Digital Doc Des Moines does NOT brick iPhones. Apple does. It's quite common for a customer to destroy their phone by running over it, leaving on top of a car, etc. In many instances, the home button is completely missing when it comes in. When we replace it and send the customer home with a working phone, everything is fine UNTIL THEY TRY AND UPDATE THE SOFTWARE THROUGH iTunes. When Apple finds a replacement home button that is different than the original one during the update, APPLE DISABLES THE PHONE.
So, again, Digital Doc Des Moines does NOT brick iPhones. Apple does deliberately through their update process.
Why does this happen? Because Apple did not consider the possibility that a customer would want their phone repaired when they break it. The ONLY home button that will work on that phone they bought for $700 is the one that was put on by the manufacturer. Apple's entire strategy is to get people to upgrade or buy a phone when they break them, NOT get them fixed even though a new phone will cost $700 and a repair costs around $100.
Bring your phone to Digital Doc Des Moines for repair. We know what we are doing. We will move your original home button over to the newly repaired phone if at all possible. If it's not possible, we will help you understand what your options are. We may even send you to Apple if that is the only way out.
